How to choose an AI visibility tool for Shopify

An AI visibility tool measures whether answer engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude can find, read and name your store. Tools in this group differ a lot in what they actually do, so we wrote nine questions to put to any of them, ours included. Keep the answers in a short table and compare.

  1. Which engines does it ask? A good answer names each engine and shows the real answers it got back.
  2. How many buyer questions run per check? A good answer is a number. Visibility Mesh runs 3 buyer questions per check on each engine.
  3. Does it tell you what to fix? Tracking shows a result. A fix list names the page, the current text and the change to make.
  4. Does it read every page you paid for? A sample is fine when it is labelled as a sample.
  5. Does it use your Shopify data? A Shopify app can read products, collections and structured data through the Admin API, which a web scan cannot.
  6. Is free separated from paid? Every feature should name the plan it belongs to.
  7. Can it prove a fix worked? A rescan should show the change.
  8. Does it promise a result? No tool controls what an AI engine says, so a guarantee is a warning sign.
  9. Where does your data go? Read the privacy policy and the deletion terms before you connect a store.

If you are an agency buying for clients

Agencies ask the same nine questions, plus four more. First, is the prompt set built from the client's real customer questions, and how many prompts are in it? Second, is each result a single run or a repeat, since AI answers can differ between identical runs? Third, is the report written for the client to act on, with the page, the current text and the change, or only for you to resell? Fourth, what drives the price, and is the scope written down before you commit? Ask for the answers in writing, and compare at least two quotes on the same scope, because quotes for similar work can differ several times over.

Where Visibility Mesh fits

Visibility Mesh reads a store the way AI crawlers read it, lists the fixes in order with the page and the exact text, and in the Shopify app also runs the mentions check on four engines. You can see what we check today on the roadmap and how the reading audit works on the AI visibility audit page. Read the plan for your own store before anything else, because a checklist that ends in a sale is only half a checklist.

Questions

What is an AI visibility tool?

It measures whether AI answer engines can find, read and name a website, and many also list what to fix.

Is mention tracking enough?

It shows whether a store was named but not why, so a store also needs a check of what the engines can read on its pages.

Should a tool guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my store?

No. No tool controls what an AI engine answers, so a guarantee is a warning sign.
