What Is Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)?
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the practice of structuring a store and its content so AI answer engines, ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, can read it, trust it, and name it in a direct answer. Where SEO competed for a spot on a list of results, AEO competes to be the single answer.
SEO and AEO share most of the same work. Clean structure, fast pages, honest content, structured data. What changes is the prize. You're no longer fighting for position three on a page of ten; you're trying to be the one store a machine names when it answers a buying question.
AEO is less about keywords and more about legibility: can a machine read your products, verify your claims, and confirm you're a real, consistent business. A store an answer engine can't read isn't a weak option. It's not an option at all.
