What Is AI Legibility?
AI legibility is how easily a machine can read and understand your store, its structure, product data, claims, and identity, without having to guess. A store can be beautiful to a human and illegible to a machine. Legibility is the layer answer engines actually read.
The layer a machine reads isn't the layer you look at. Your browser runs your store's JavaScript, applies your styling, and shows you a polished page. A crawler may see a different, thinner version, or a blank one, and what it can read is what decides whether you get recommended.
Improving legibility means closing the gap between what your store looks like and what a machine can actually parse: accessible pages, structured data, machine-readable claims, and a consistent identity.
Common questions
How do I check my store's AI legibility?
You measure it directly, crawler access, rendering, structured data, and entity signals, because none of it is visible in your browser. A scan reads the store the way a machine does.
Is legibility the same as accessibility?
They're related but not identical. Accessibility focuses on humans using assistive tech; AI legibility focuses on machines reading and understanding your store. Good practice helps both.
