What Is Agentic Commerce?

Agentic commerce is when AI agents find, compare, and buy products on a shopper's behalf. Often without the shopper ever visiting the store. Shopify activated agentic storefronts by default, syndicating catalogs into AI surfaces, so a store's product data must be machine-readable enough for an agent to sell it.

When a machine buys instead of a human, there's no impulse, no upsell scroll, no persuasive copy doing the work, just product data clean enough to transact. Missing identifiers, vague categories, or claims stuck in prose can quietly disqualify a product, with no error and no warning.

Being 'agent-ready' means structured, complete product data: real identifiers, machine-readable claims in fields, accurate live price and inventory, and the right sales channels toggled on.

Common questions

Did I opt into agentic commerce?

Not actively. Shopify activated agentic storefronts by default. Your catalog is in the agentic layer whether you're ready or not; readiness is the variable you control.

What makes a catalog agent-ready?

Structured, complete product data, identifiers, machine-readable claims, accurate live price and stock, plus the right channels enabled so agents can find and sell your products.
